The Cultural X-change is a joint initiative between Pembrokeshire in Wales and County Carlow in Ireland to create two virtual museums, one for each county.

The concept of the Cultural X-change began in 2004 during talks between members of both Carlow’s and Pembrokeshire’s Museum Service. It was agreed that a project should be undertaken to allow the exchanging of historic and cultural information relating to both counties.

This innovative project enables people from all over the world to learn about the heritage and culture of both Pembrokeshire and Carlow through an interesting and easy-to-use website.

An application to obtain funding for the project was submitted and in June 2004 a total of £199,626 was granted through the European Union’s Interreg IIIA Programme. Further funding for the project came from Pembrokeshire County Council, Carlow Town Council and Carlow County Council.
